![]() Just because Razed To The Ground’s later tracks are less distinct makes them no fulfilling in-and-of-themselves, and the high energy and hard-hitting production make up for any “sameness” that begins to creep in around the album’s back end. This results in an album that is certainly front-loaded, but no less impressive because of it. Many of the same tricks found on the album’s early tracks are repeated toward the record’s end (see the above comparison between “Electric Sky” and “Craving”) and it’s often the earlier instanced that are the most rewarding. If there’s a fault to be found with Razed To The Ground 4it’s that it tends to become a bit repetitive, especially toward the end of the record. Whether it’s abrasive Anselmo-isms, merging into Chino Moreno-esque shrieks Jerry Cantrell-like croons or rabid, Lou Koller-style hardcore barks Williams handles each instance with aplomb-effortlessly shifting between gears and tones while all the while sounding entirely natural and spontaneous. As much as the entire band are on-point on Razed To The Ground, it’s vocalist-Tim Williams who is, without doubt, the star of the show. “Electric Sky” delves into a wonderfully hypnotic, Alice In Chains-like section once it gets all of its thrashing out of the way, and “Craving” invokes a similar tone to catching effect later on. Yet, the album is by no means wholly pig-headed. “Heart Of Darkness” almost sounds like it could have been ripped straight from the Trendkill sessions, or even Ansemo’s later work with Superjoint Ritual, and much of Razed To The Ground follows suit. 3 Razed To The Ground, on the other hand, is at-once crisp and raw, and undeniably punchy and its content is, likewise, more aggressive and impactful. As much as The Cursed Remains Cursed’s content was solid, the album suffered from a forgettable, flat production. The decision to work with famed producer, Chris “Zeus” Harris (Hatebreed, Chimaera, Rob Zombie, Crowbar) 2 definitely paid off. Anselmo guest on one of their songs 1 and Razed To The Ground throws back to a time when albums like Far Beyond Driven and The Great Southern Trendkill dominated the metal airwaves, and Biohazard seemed like a respectable and legitimately innovative band. Vision Of Disorder are, of course, most well known for having Philip. ![]() The alternative influences are still present, but this is an album characterized by its fast riffs and political vitriol. Razed To The Ground is perhaps the most straight-forward, “hardcore” album Vision Of Disorder have ever done (along with The Cursed Remain Cursed). Vision Of Disorder made a strong return with The Cursed Remain Cursed (2012), but it’s Razed To The Ground that truly restores the metalcore pioneers to the glory of their early records. ![]()
